Through all phases of life, Driftwood members enjoy meaning, purpose, a sense of belonging, and connection.
These key components of wellness foster our ability and desire to be engaged citizens in the City of North Vancouver.
Driftwood Village Cohousing, built in 2021 after six years of planning and development, is the second cohousing community in North Vancouver, with 27 strata homes (5 townhomes and 22 apartments), a variety of shared common spaces, and an intergenerational mix of residents, from newborns to seniors. Homes range from around 700 to 1700 sf, and all have 9-foot ceilings, triple-paned windows, at least two bedrooms, full kitchens, and an outdoor balcony or patio.
Situated in walkable, bikable central Lonsdale, the community backs onto tranquil Wagg Creek and is close to parks, rec centers, schools, and daycares, and is steps to the main shopping and transit artery of Lonsdale Avenue.
Our common spaces
On the basement level, we have a workshop, a bike storage room, and individual storage lockers. The ground floor is home to a large common kitchen/dining room, upper and lower outdoor courtyards, a kids’ playroom, and a laundry room. On the 3rd floor, we have a guest suite with two bedrooms and a bathroom; on the 5th floor, a work-from-home and exercise room with an outdoor deck; and on the rooftop, garden vegetable beds, and a patio seating area with views of the North Shore mountains and Lion’s Gate Bridge.
How we are run
Driftwood Village is a strata corporation operated in accordance with the BC Strata Property Act. Units are owner-occupied (or can be rented out by the owners). Eight of the units are priced at 25% below market value (in perpetuity) with the support of the City of North Vancouver to provide below-market housing.
The strata council includes all residents, but we make decisions based on a governance system called sociocracy. This system helps our community to run smoothly and efficiently, with most residents playing an active role in Driftwood’s management.
